| What are Terminal Services? | ![]() |
Windows Terminal Services software lets you deliver Windows-based applications, or the Windows desktop itself, to virtually any computing device—including those that cannot run Windows. Microsoft Windows Server includes the Terminal Services facility, so the only purchase required to use Terminal Services with recent Windows clients is an appropriate number of special client licenses. This arrangement is highly suited to common office duties such as word processing and email, where a full PC would be waiting for user input most of the time. For extra printing versatility, Windows Terminal Services can also direct output back to a locally connected printer.
The possibilities for remote management are also dramatically increased, since terminal sessions can be established over dial-up and wide area links as well as local networks, and are almost as good as working at the server itself. Terminal Server lets you use Windows anywhere and you can take advantage of extra processing capabilities of the server.
Additional features such as high performance file and application sharing, centralized data backup and increased data security round out the feature set. Windows Terminal Services accepts connections using Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). The RDP client software comes installed with Windows (all desktop versions of Windows 95 and later). Third party clients are also available to support various Unix terminals and others through Java. Each client or device that will connect to a Terminal Server requires a Terminal Server Client Access Licence.
Unimaxx Managed Services:
Unimaxx introduces this "pay for usage" model for the computing functions made to run your business efficiently. Choose the services to suit your situation – MS Exchange, MS Office, document storage & management, plus more. The choice and flexibility is yours. Take the worry out of buying and managing an in-house server with Unimaxx managed services using Microsoft's SPLA licensing model.
A managed service is usually something that is considered by large corporations with lots of money to spend on their I.T. systems. Smaller businesses cannot afford these enterprise solutions. Unimaxx offers managed services available to anyone from $50 a month/per seat for document storage.
Think of the solution as a tap! If you need more users, more mailboxes, more users to access applications, you turn the tap on and pay for consumption. The same principle applies if you reduce the number of seats and no longer pay for the license which turns the tap off.
This differs from current licensing and infrastructure models. An in-house server is deployed by the customer using specified requirements and scalability. If the customer doesn’t meet targets or exceeds them, reality sets in. Too much money spent for their requirements and potentially licenses that are no longer needed. Also, the solution is not scalable to their needs due unexpected growth. For example, Small Business Server has a limitation of 75 users. A hosted solution can cope with either of these scalability issues. As an end user of the service, you need not worry about busy servers, having the right Microsoft Client Access licenses for the application nor is the server out of warranty.
Your company applications can be accessed from anywhere in the world where there are broadband connections. The system has minimal requirements so applications can be accessed from virtually any PC. The customer is always correctly licensed for Microsoft applications hosted at the data centre as this is part of your monthly payment. Unimaxx reports license usage to Microsoft at the end of each month as per agreement with Microsoft.
The Unimaxx Data Center is secure, fire and earthquake protected and UPS backup in case of power failures and has more than one provider for Internet access in case of network failures. Servers are monitored by Microsoft Certified Technicians with Enterprise skills in terms of deploying these systems for corporate clients. Unimaxx Data Center is equipped with backup servers for 7/24 redundancy.
Unimaxx say's "Keep it simple" at the office! Your company requirements are minimal. Computers, firewall and Internet connection. Why buy high powered PC’s? Ask Unimaxx about Terminal Services and save more money.
